WheelTribe is a project by Destination Everywhere Accessible Travel, a company created in 2018 in Brussels, Belgium. We have the goal of connecting travellers with disabilities with the many accessible experiences and destinations out there. The founders are Eleonora Censorii and Marco Canali, while Cindy Fabbricelli has joined the team as part of the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs Programme of the EU.
Belgium
Founder of WheelTribe, my goal is to connect people with fun, meaningful and accessible experiences, to make travel more inclusive and sustainable for the local communities and the travellers.
Italy
I’m an entrepreneur and an investor with a diverse portfolio of start-ups and scale-ups, including EasyReading, a company that created a dyslexia-friendly font.
Project Manager
I am a specialist in accessible tourism and I founded TravelHand, a travel agency focused on accessible travel in the South of France. My passion lies in creating travel experiences that are accessible to everyone.
WheelTribe was co-created with a diverse group of friends and individuals who share a passion for travel and have lived experiences with mobility disabilities.
The initial idea
We wanted to create something that would be useful for those travellers who love organising their own trips - but are having a hard time finding the necessary information.
Online Communities
Where do travelers with disabilities find information today? Mostly online, through various travel communities or from disability-focused travel influencers
Connections
Then why not connect locals with a disability and associations, allies, families and friends, to help travellers make the most of their holidays? The idea for WheelTribe was born.
To create the WheelTribe platform, we worked with a coach, Diego Gaspar, who helped us to design a tailored "Design Sprint" workshop online. The group of participants of the Design Sprint were persons with a mobility disability whom we knew - and who are seasoned travellers - plus two representatives of a non-profit association that creates and runs three accessible beaches in Italy. Together we analysed "the pain": what are the problems that travellers with a mobility disability face when organising a trip? In the second phase we worked on ideas for a solution, laying out some of the current features in the website.
We took part in the co-creation workshop as representatives of Io Posso, and the experience was very enriching. We especially liked the multicutural, international and very lively setting where we had the opportunity to share and learn. (Giorgia and Francesco)
Real travels are troubles, chaos and fun together, just like the workshops we took part in to co-create the website!
